The device has a lever located on a floor or front face of a dashboard of a vehicle, to select a transmission operating mode. Two buttons (26, 28) increase or decrease the transmission ratio. Each button is placed on a fixed arm (30, 32) extending from lateral walls (20,22) of a box (10) of a control module (12), on both sides of a vertical symmetrical axis (A-A) of a fly-wheel.
