The composting procedure, carried out in a trough with a base (27), uses a spiral screw (8) to stir the materials being composted, forcing them downwards and outwards. The screw has an overall diameter of between 90 and 100 cm and a pitch angle of under 80 degrees. The height of the screw corresponds to between four and six spirals, and its speed of rotation and horizontal motion are determined so as to produce a systematic flow of the material (25) through the screw's inner chamber (26) and out through the side (22) opposite its direction of travel.
