The device (1) has a video camera fixedly integrated to the back of a motor vehicle, and a panel (10) movable between closed and open positions. The panel is arranged at the front of a lens of the camera when it is in the closed position, and is at a distance from the lens when it is in the open position. A motor unit (20) has an electric motor (21) to drive the panel between the closed and open positions. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle having a rear view device.
