The machine has a locking device to clamp a vehicle wheel, and a centering device (9) arranged concentrically at the axis of rotation of the locking device. The centering device is engaged in a central recess (10) of the wheel in an operation position, and has a variable diameter (14). The centering device, in the operation position, is in contact with a wall surface (21) which limits the recess. An independent claim is also included for a process to clamp a vehicle wheel.
