Instrument for determining axis of anaesthetic injection needle to align with mandibular foramen has branches with auricular tip and sliding stylet

The instrument consists of a first branch with an auricular tip (5) on one end and a second perpendicular branch at the other. A third branch is fixed perpendicular to the end of the second one and fitted with a stylet (4) that is able to slide perpendicular to the third branch. When in use the auricular tip is inserted into the patient's auditory meatus, aligning it with the posterior edge (6) of the mandible. The point of the stylet is then applied against the anterior edge (9) of the medial pterygoid muscle, and the syringe (10) needle is then set parallel with the stylet axis. The first and third branches of the instrument are 4 cm long, and the second is 15 cm long.
