The method involves closing a switching unit (12) e.g. relay, and opening a switching unit (14) e.g. relay, such that a fan motor rotates at high speed, before a time t 1. The unit (14) is closed at the time t 1, and the unit (12) remains unchanged until a time t 2. The units are connected in parallel so that a switching device switches the motor from high to low speed level. The unit (12) opens at time t 2. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling an electric fan motor of a motor vehicle.
