The method involves estimating a frequency shift of a carrier frequency of a received signal, with a frequency estimator (EST) in a manner to obtain an estimation value. The estimation value of the frequency shift is refined. The carrier frequency is corrected by a phase lock loop (PLL) initiated by the estimation value. The frequency locking range of the PLL is lower than the frequency locking range of the estimator. An independent claim is also included for a device for processing frequency shift.
