The building (1) contains one or more units (4), each comprising a zone (Z1) in which a farrowing sow can lie down, a second zone (Z2) for feeding the piglets, a third one (Z3) for feeding the sow, and a fourth one (Z4) for the sow and/or piglets to exercise and defecate. Access for the sow to at least some of the zones is controlled by a barrier (17) that can be moved between different positions by turning it about a vertical axis (16) between the second and third zones. At the same time the barrier allows free access for the piglets between the different zones.
