An initial map gives the current thickness of the sedimentary layer from seismic prospection data and interpolates for all points in time between the beginning and end of the sequence. This is combined with data on sediment composition and diffusion characteristics and applied to a model on a large scale to determine the topography of the basin at the beginning and end of the sequence. The thickness of the layers formed at all points in the sequence are determined by linear time interpolation between the thicknesses at the beginning and end of the sequence. The data are applied to a stationary diffusion model with resolution of large scale diffusive transport equations to determine the map and the topography of the terrestrial surface over the whole basin at the beginning and the end of the sequence. When the delivered deposits are monolithological, all the intermediate bathymetric profiles are determined by interpolation between the beginning and end of each sequence. Each intermediate profile is obtained by selecting the value of a parameter such as bathymetry. When the delivered deposits are multilithological with a constant ratio between diffusion coefficients in the marine and continental media, all the intermediate bathymetric profiles are determined by interpolation between the beginning and end of each sequence.
