The method involves injecting fuel in an inlet line (6) when a cylinder (3) is in an intake stroke during final rotation of a piston (2) of the cylinder to fill a combustion chamber (4) of the cylinder with air-fuel mixture. A stop position is guaranteed at the end of a preceding operation mode, when the piston of the cylinder is at rest. A heat engine (1) is restarted by burning the mixture as long as the mixture is inflammable. An independent claim is also included for a heat engine for a motor vehicle.
