The system has a solid oxide fuel cell (9) associated with a turbo compressor assembly having a compressor (12) and a turbine (13). The cell produces electric current fed to an electric drive motor (17) by electrical connections. A turbine (22) is fed by oxidizing gas supplied from the cell, after the gas crosses the turbine (13), where turbine (22) has an output shaft (23) mechanically connected to an input of the motor. An independent claim is also included for a method for generating power for driving a motor vehicle.
