The apparatus consists of a conveyor belt (20) with a surface (22) travelling in a set direction, with a series of vanes (30, 30') along either side of the belt that move synchronously with it and pivot in sequence to fold the pastry (10) over a roll of filling (40) extruded onto it through a feeder. The vanes are in the form of flat strips with their pivoting ends connected to chains (35) running along opposite sides of the conveyor belt and moving the vanes in a cyclic operation. After the sides of the pastry layer have been folded over the filling the ends are turned in by a folding mechanism (60) on the conveyor.
