A quenching device (10) comprises: (A) a quenching enclosure (40) containing a working volume (73) for the components to be quenched; (B) an outer enclosure (20) containing the quenching enclosure and separated from it by a storage volume (41) able to contain a quenching gas at high pressure; (C) a system (54, 60) for the continuous circulation of the quenching gas in the working volume and in the storage volume. The circulation system is placed in the storage volume.
