Wire made of beta titanium alloy for orthodontic use is composed of recrystallized grains with an average size above 20 mu m, giving the wire an apparent modulus of elasticity below 20 GPa, a recoverable deformation above 3% and a ductility of at least 7%. An independent claim is also included for producing wire as above by subjecting a cold-drawn beta titanium alloy wire to a thermomechanical treatment to increase grain size and then to a uniaxial plastic predeformation treatment to leave a residual deformation of more than 5%.
