The device has a repositioning unit (14) for positioning a guard rail (4) by passing the rail from an open position, parallel to traffic direction, to another open position, oriented towards the top. The rail rotates in vertical and horizontal planes, with respect to axes that are parallel and perpendicular to the direction, respectively. The rail returns directly from the open position, parallel to the direction, to a closed position. An independent claim is also included for a toll gate including a guard rail repositioning device.
