The device has a guiding unit (7) fixed on a body provided with a surface contacting with a bar. A cleaning unit (5) is articulated around a connecting axle (16) of the body and driven by a motor. The cleaning unit (5) includes two blades and a passage formed between the blades having work spaces provided at a level of the contact surface, when the motor is in a connected end position with respect to the guiding unit. An independent claim is also included for a process for cleaning a material deposit on a bar.
