Cosmetic composition useful as topical slimming aid, contains at least one inhibitor of metalloprotease 2 and/or 9, inhibits differentiation of adipocytes and thus lipogenesis

Cosmetic slimming composition (A) containing as active ingredient at least one inhibitor (I) of metalloprotease 2 and/or 9, is new. ACTIVITY : Anorectic. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Matrix metalloprotease (2) inhibitor; Matrix metalloprotease (9) inhibitor. Matrix metalloprotease (MMP) 2 and 9, present in the supernatant of a 5 day culture of preadipocytes, were separated on an electrophoretic gel; renatured then incubated for 16 hours at 37 [deg]C in pH 8.5 buffer containing either no extract of Baccharis genistelloides or 0.5 % of such an extract. The gels were then stained with Coomassie Blue and gelatinase activity visualized by the regions of lysis in the gel. In presence of the extract, MMP9 activity was reduced to 70 % of the control value and activity of MMP2 was reduced to 77 %.
