The engine has two downstream exhaust gas recirculation conduits (68, 70) that are susceptible to supply derived exhaust gas to intake conduits (28, 30) in a parallel manner. The downstream recirculation conduits have respective valves (64, 72) for regulating rate of the derived exhaust gas. One conduit (68) is partially open and another conduit (70) is completely closed when a slide valve occupies one of its two positions. The conduit (68) is completely open and another conduit (70) is partially open when the slide valve occupies another position.
