A system for locating remote controls using a network of home entertainment of devices

A network of devices (eg TVs, DVD players and HiFis) is used to locate associated remote control units. The devices receive signals from a given remote control and use these to determine its position via a method of triangulation. Individual devices may use antenna arrays to improve position determination. The remote controls may be made to emit an audible sound to aid location. A Display having a graphical user interface is also provided. Users can sketch a lay out on the display. The relative position of the remote controls can then be displayed in association with this sketch. The locations the various remote controls can be stored and updated at given time intervals.
