Wave energy device using the effect of air movement in response to wave action

A wave energy device 10 comprises a heave-resistant vessel with one or more flow paths into which water is urged by wave motion. An energy extractor, for example a turbine 18, is in fluid communication with the flow path(s) and arranged to extract energy from air movement in the flow paths caused by the wave motion. The flow paths may have varying lengths, and may in communication with the atmosphere at a point beyond the energy extractor. The device may be tethered 14 to the seabed 12 or constrained in such a way that it is heave-resistant, and the surface area of water the device covers is kept low.
