PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic focusing device capable of detecting a accurate focusing position, in a short time, as well as in an automatic focusing device that is equipped with a zoom lens system. PSOLUTION: The automatic focusing device comprises a lens system 101, including a focus lens 101a for making a subject image focused at a predetermined position and a zoom lens system 101b, a CCD 103 for imaging the subject image inputted via the lens system 101 and outputting image data, and a CPU 121 for determining a final focusing position, based on the result of the detection by the CCD-AF and an external AF, and sets the sampling conditions of the CCD-AF, according to the focal length of the lens system 101b.
