PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant crash protection device capable of protecting an occupant in response to a collision object. PSOLUTION: The occupant crash protection device 1 transmits an ultrasonic wave toward an outside of a vehicle, and receives a reflected wave returned reflected by the object in the outside of the vehicle. The occupant crash protection device 1 determines a kind of the object in the outside of the vehicle, based on a characteristic of the received reflected wave. The occupant crash protection device 1 determines therein the kind of the object in the outside of the vehicle, based on at least two of an integrated value of a waveform of the reflected wave and a distortion thereof. The occupant crash protection device 1 judges the propriety of restraining the occupant in response to the kind of the object in the outside of the vehicle, after the determination.
