PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for synthesizing a carbon-based one-dimensional material for synthesizing high purity single wall carbon nanotubes with less than 2 nm diameter at a temperature as low as 650°C or lower. PSOLUTION: A carbon-based one-dimensional material is synthesized by carrying out a reaction of a compound containing carbon as a source gas in plasma by using a catalyst carried on a substrate, wherein a catalyst (FeSB1-p-q/SBCoSBp/SBNiSBq/SB)SB1-x-y/SBMoSBx/SBCrSBy/SB(wherein 0x+y≤0.33, 0≤x≤0.33, 0≤y≤0.33, 0≤p+q 1, 0≤p≤1, 0≤q≤1), for example, FeSB1-x/SBMoSBx/SB(0x+y≤0.33) is used for the catalyst.
