PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength multiplex optical signal transmission method, wavelength multiplex optical signal transmission system, and optical repeater in which a level control or level monitoring function can normally operate upon a wavelength multiplex optical signal without erroneously detecting the number of wavelengths even if optical noise occurs in the optical repeater.;SOLUTION: Wavelength number information contains the total number of wavelengths and presence/absence of a signal for the unit of each wavelength. Thus, even if optical noise occurs in an optical repeater 101, a level control or level monitoring function can normally operate upon a wavelength multiplex optical signal without erroneously detecting the number of wavelengths.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
