PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for driving a divisional drive field sequential color liquid crystal display using scan backlight, by which color mixing development on a boundary between neighboring divisional drive areas is prevented, and further luminance is improved while color unevenness is suppressed by maximizing turning on time of the backlight while ensuring the liquid crystal response time.;SOLUTION: In the case of driving the field sequential color liquid crystal display in a screen division system, the sequence of writing in R, G, B on TFT liquid crystal pixels and the sequence of turning on R, G, B in the backlight are staggered between separated areas. The timing of writing in the liquid crystal pixels corresponding to the timing of turning on of the respective blocks of the backlight is preferably staggered by blocks corresponding to the liquid crystal response time with respect to a writing in scanning position, by at least one block, that is, at least by one portion of area portions corresponding to each column of the backlight.
