PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-soluble grinding fluid exhibiting excellent processing property, improving the working environment, reducing the effect on the environment and free from ignition danger and provide a processing method using the fluid.;SOLUTION: The grinding fluid 4 for the cutting and grinding of an optical element such as lens 3 is a water-soluble fluid or an aqueous fluid and contains an alkanolamine salt composed of at least one kind of aliphatic carboxylic acid and aromatic carboxylic acid and an alkanolamine, an anionic or nonionic surfactant and a synthetic lubricant.
