PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diesel engine, capable of reducing manufacturing cost of a device, and also reducing energy conditions necessary for starting procedures. PSOLUTION: This diesel engine 1 comprises an electronically driven control system 7. An actuation space 20 formed by a cylinder 2 and a piston 3 is related to a fuel injection nozzle 26, a starting air supply nozzle 25, and a gas exchange valve 23 for gaseous contents in the actuation space. Time interval for actuating the injection and actuation nozzle and the gas exchange valve is a control time that can be freely set. The control time can be electronically regulated by the control system to produce fuel ignition conditions in the first actuation space by compression. By supplying starting air to carry out work, necessary energy therefore can be given to the second actuation space.
