PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a spectrophotometric device for determining an analyte present in a sample having various background matrixes and possibly having substantial component interference. PSOLUTION: The method for determining the concentration of an organic blood analyte in a blood tissue sample comprises steps of (a) irradiating the sample with incident radiation having a wavelength range of 1100-5000 nm; (b) collecting reflected radiation emerging from the sample; (c) receiving the reflected radiation emerging from the sample by use of a detection means; (d) converting the detected reflected radiation to a signal; (e) analyzing the signal to determine the concentration of the analyte; (f) providing a reference to detect inaccurate measurements; and measuring the intensity of radiation from said body tissue sample for at least one of to provide a reference to detect inaccurate measurements and to identify ineffective measurements arising from a failure to obtain a proper instrumentation scan of the tissue sample.
