PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provides a method for expanding and increasing the survival of hematopoietic cell populations (groups comprising granulocytes, monocytes, erythrocytes, lymphocytes and platelets), to provide a method for prolonging viability of an organ for transplantation, and to provide a method for enhancing bioproduction. PSOLUTION: This method for inhibiting the apoptosis of hematopoietic cell populations with interleukin-1-converting enzyme (ICE)/CED-3 family inhibitors (nucleic acids, antisense sequences, protease inhibitors).
