PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an attenuator suitable for a high frequency transmitter-receiver and practical, wherein the attenuation thereof is easily and minutely adjusted. PSOLUTION: The attenuator is provided with: first and second dielectric lines 6, 7 for propagating a high frequency signal arranged between flat plate conductors 5 located in parallel at an interval of a half or below of the wavelength of the high frequency signal and located close to each other at a prescribed interval W for electromagnetic coupling or joined at their mid parts; and a resistive terminator 8a provided in one end 7a of the second dielectric line 7 at the same side of an output terminal 6b of the first dielectric line 6 when viewed from the mid-part (close approach part DL) of the second dielectric line 7 and terminating the incident high frequency signal. The attenuator is excellently operated by arranging the resistive terminator 8a at the one end 7a at the same side as the output terminal 6b when viewed from the close approach part DL, and the attenuation is easily and minutely adjusted over a wide adjustable range by only changing the interval W.
