PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for inspecting a thickness reduction of a laid pipe with a heat insulating member, which can effectively measure a thickness for the minimum working hours without removing the heat insulating member.;SOLUTION: The apparatus for inspecting the thickness reduction of the laid pipe with the heat insulating member being composed of a metal cover 1, the heat insulating member 2 and a pipe 3 arranged in the above order from the outside comprises; a sheath tube 4 which passes through the metal cover and the heat insulating member and contacts with the surface of the pipe; an ultrasonic probe 5 which is disposed inside the sheath tube and contacts with the surface of the pipe through a water-enclosed rubber membrane 7; and a probe device 8 which calculates the thickness of the pipe based on waves transmitted/received by the ultrasonic probe.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
