PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article discrimination device capable of discriminating the article at a low cost for a wide range of the articles without being limited by the articles provided with a precise analysis data.;SOLUTION: The food and drink discrimination device receives inputted kinds of foods and drinks inputted by operation of a user X, and executes the spectroscopic analysis by the spectroscopic analyzer, and stores the spectrum of the object as the result of the analysis, then the similarity calculation part of frequency range comparison type executes the similarity discrimination process based on the kinds of inspection and the spectrum of inspection object. In the similarity discrimination process, every spectrum corresponding table for every name of product, the total distance representing difference of the spectrum of inspection object and the name of every product are calculated and the results of the calculation are compared. The name of product spectrum corresponding table for every name of product of shortest total distance is determined that it is most similar to the name of product having inspection spectrum, the name of product and the total distance are outputted as the result of the discrimination.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
