PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detecting kit and a detecting method useful for detecting the retrovirus from a HIV group. PSOLUTION: The kit and method for detecting the immunodeficiency virus or its variant of the HIV group, which has the designation MVP-5180/91 and is deposited with the European Collection of Animal Cell Cultures (ECACC) under No. V 920 92 318, employ peptide as an antigen which has at least six consecutive amino acids, in an amino acid sequence of a membrane protein of the immunodeficiency virus or its variant.
