PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of configuring a laser device or an optical amplifier of high reliability with less changes in optical length depending on temperature.;SOLUTION: The optical amplifier comprises at least an amplifying medium capable of amplifying optical signals at a specified wavelength (wavelength 1), an excitation light source which radiates light of such wavelength (wavelength 2) as can excite the amplifying medium into the condition for amplification, an input port in which the signal light of wavelength 1 is input, a multiplexer capable of multiplexing the light of wavelength 1 and wavelength 2, and an output port for outputting the light of wavelength 1 which has been amplified.
