PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ATM cell transfer device capable of detecting a read error more precisely, and recovering to a normal state without losing a cell residing in an FIFO memory.;SOLUTION: An SOC fault detector 33 counts the length from a high pulse to the next one for an R_SOC signal read from the FIFO memory 22, monitors the occurrence of a fault, and compares the phase between the R_SOC signal and a reference SOC signal for detecting the shift width of the high pulse. The SOC fault detector 33 notifies the detection of the fault to an SOC corrector 4 and the outside by an SOC fault detection signal, and notifies the detected shift width to the SOC corrector 4 by counter correction information.
