PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material feeder, a feeding method, and an image forming apparatus including it, accelerating the speed of feeding a sheet material, preventing the generation of shock sound and flip sound and performing stable feeding control by performing the slue-up control for a stepping motor used as the drive in a predetermined timing between a nip forming part and a register means part in feeding.;SOLUTION: This sheet material feeder includes: a feeding means 4 brought into pressure contact with the sheet material stored in a sheet material loading member 1 to deliver the sheet material to a separating part; and an inclined member 6 having a slant face 9 on which the leading edge of the sheet material in the delivery direction abuts. In the sheet feeder, the stepping motor 19 is used as a driving source, and a feeding means 4 is driven by a clutch mechanism to transport a sheet material to a register means part.
