PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a strength member for an automobile having a cross section shape excellent in absorption energy at collision and reaction force at initial stage of collision.;SOLUTION: In a different shape cross section shape formed with a recessed part making opposed inner surfaces to a curved part from an upper side of a square type steel pipe having a square-like cross section toward the inside of a pipe, when length of the side of the square of the different shape cross section shape is made to L, length of a linear line connecting the curved part and the left side of the square is made to L₁, length of a linear line connecting the curved part and the right side of the square is made to L₂ and a distance of the lowermost point of the curved part and a central point of a lower side of the square is made to L₃, L₁, L₂ and L₃ satisfy three formulae of (1) 0.2 L≤L₁≤0.4 L, (2) 0.2 L≤L₂≤0.4 L and 0.1 L≤L₃≤0.5 L.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
