NOVOLAC TYPE PHENOL RESIN FOR INCORPORATING IN FLAME-RETARDANT POLYESTER RESIN AND FLAME RETARDANT POLYESTER-BASED RESIN COMPOSITION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novolac type phenol resin, which is prepared for incorporating in a flame retardant polyester resin, generates no odor when mixed with a resin, disperses finely in a polyester resin and causes no deterioration of mechanical properties, and also to provide a flame-retardant polyester resin composition containing the same.;SOLUTION: The novolac type phenol resin for incorporating with a flame retardant polyester resin composition is characterized by containing at most 0.1 wt.% of unreacted phenols and at most 5 wt.% of a dinucleic component for the whole amount of novolac type phenol resin. The average molecular weight of the resin is preferably 1,500-12,000. Further, the resin is preferably prepared by reacting phenols with aldehydes by using an organic phosphonic acid or aqueous phosphoric acid as a catalyst.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
