PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reversing polarization of a ferroelectric crystal which extremely simply generates polarization reversal inside the ferroelectric crystal extending from its front face to its rear face at a low cost, and a method for fabricating a polarization reversal grid.;SOLUTION: A photoconductive film 20 is formed on the upper face of a ferroelectric crystal plate 10. Then an ultraviolet ray 70 of which the intensity distribution on the photoconductive film 20 is periodically patterned is made to irradiate the ferroelectric crystal plate 10 via the photoconductive film 20, and at the same time an electric field is applied to the ferroelectric crystal plate 10 via the photoconductive film 20. Because a region 20a subjected to irradiation of the ultraviolet ray 70 exhibits conductivity, the photoconductive film 20 functions as an electrode corresponding to the periodic pattern of the ultraviolet ray 70. Consequently a polarization structure corresponding to the periodic pattern identical to that of the electrode, that is, the periodic pattern of the ultraviolet ray 70 is generated inside the ferroelectric crystal plate 10. As a result, the polarization reversal grid with excellent uniformity is fabricated extending from the front face of the ferroelectric crystal 10 to the rear face thereof.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
