PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods for acquiring, compensating and displaying a range information distribution, which can acquire the range information distribution in the form of a two-dimensional arrangement (matrix), eliminate or compensate range information with suspected incorrect ranging, and appropriately display a result and its process.;SOLUTION: Range information sets are obtained by pairing a range data set which includes a phase difference or the range corresponding to its inverse, with a reliability data set about the range data, especially about contrasts of image data, and some range information sets with low reliability are excluded, or their range data sets are compensated. Since the range data sets with the low reliability are compensated by using only surrounding range data sets of the range information with high reliability, the reliability of the compensated range data set can be secured. Furthermore, the method for displaying the range information distribution displays only range data sets with high reliability, thereby enabling a display to be realized which is recognized by an observer easily.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
