PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin that has excellent water-absorbing properties and an antimicrobial capability by polymerizing a binary copolymer of acrylamide and 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane with a 3-(trimethoxysilylalkyl) phosphonium salt monomer. ;SOLUTION: Acrylamide and 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane are copolymerized in a solvent to give a binary copolymer, of which 1 mol is copolymerized with 0.01-10 mol of a monomer of the formula (wherein R1, R2, and R3 are each a 1-8C alkyl; X- is an anion; and n is an integer of 1 or higher) to give a terpolymer, 3-(Trimethoxysilylpropyl)tri-n-butylphosphonium chloride, 3-(trimethoxysilylpropyl)tri-n-hexylphosphonium chloride, and 3-(trimethoxysilylpropyl)tri-n-octylphosphonium chloride are pref. as the compds. of the formula.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
