PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a melt processable poly(ester-amide) which is capable of forming an anisotropic melt phase, and can be melt-processed at a relatively low temperature of from about 300°C to about 400°C.;SOLUTION: The poly(ester-amide) has recurring units of: (a) a 4-hydroxybenzoyl moiety, (b) a 6-oxy-2-naphthoyl moiety, (c) a 4,4'-biphenol moiety, (d) a terephthaloyl moiety, and (e) an aromatic moiety capable of forming an amide linkage in the proportions indicated respectively. Preferably, the moiety capable of forming an amide linkage is derived from p-aminophenol, p-phenylenediamine, N-acetyl-p-aminophenol, etc. The resulting poly(ester-amide) has good chemical and physical properties because it has a highly oriented molecular structure as anticipated from an indication of an anisotropic property like a liquid crystal in the melt condition. And amazingly the poly(ester-amide) can be melt-processed at a lower temperature of from about 300°C to about 400°C.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
