PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic focusing device capable of accurately detecting a focusing position at high speed with respect to various kinds of subjects. SOLUTION: This automatic focusing device is equipped with a lens system 101 including a focus lens system 101a forming a subject image at a specified position, and a CCD 103 picking up the subject image inputted through the lens system 101 and outputting image data, and a CPU 121 performs external AF and/or CCD-AF based on the detected brightness of the subject.
