PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new nucleic acid fragment having a base sequence contained in 23Sr RNA of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157 or its complementary chain base sequence and useful as a probe, etc., for detection of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157. ;SOLUTION: This new nucleic acid fragment is a nucleic acid fragment of 10-40 bases having a base sequence contained in 23Sr RNA of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157 or its complementary chain sequence and the nucleic acid fragment contains at least 5 bases of a base sequence selected from a group comprising base sequences represented by formulas I to III or its complementary base sequence and is useful as a detection probe, etc., for safely, simply, specifically and quantitatively detecting and identifying enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157. The nucleic acid fragment is obtained by preparing DNA from enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157, using the DNA as a template and carrying out PCR by using a primer comprising a part of 23Sr RNA and collecting a part having a base sequence different from other Escherichia coli from the resultant amplified DNA fragment.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
