PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultraviolet light absorber for synthetic resins.;SOLUTION: This ultraviolet light absorber for the synthetic resins comprises a compound represented by general formula (I) {wherein, Rs denote each a 1-4C alkyl group; n denotes an integer of 0-2; and X denotes (a) COR¹ [wherein, R¹ denotes a 5-19C alicyclic group or a 5-19C alkyl group which has the alicyclic group in the chain and may be branched (the number of carbon atoms includes the alicyclic group)], (b) COR'COOH (wherein, R' denotes a 5-19C alicyclic group or a 5-19C alkanediyl group having the alicyclic group), (c) COR'COOR² [wherein, R² denotes a 1-18C alkyl group or a 1-18C (poly)alkyleneoxyalkyl group which may be branched or have the alicyclic group in the end or chain] or (d) COR'CO-Z [wherein, Z denotes a group after removing X from general formula (I)]}.
