PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the air volume for diluting the exhaust gas temperature while enhancing safety by disposing a heat exchanger tar recovering latent heat of exhaust gas on the exhaust gas side of a combustor for producing hot water by heating water tubes thereby lowering the exhaust gas temperature. ;SOLUTION: A combustor, i.e., a gas burner 25, is disposed at the lower part in a hot water supply apparatus and finned water tube 19 is arranged above the gas burner 25. City water is then fed from an upper water inlet 18 to the water tube 19 through the water tube 15 of a heat exchanger 13 for recovering latent heat thus preheating the city water to some extent by the heat exchanger 13. The preheated water is further heated, when it flows through the water tube 19 toward a water outlet 22, by the heat radiated from the flame of a gas burner 25 or the heat transmitted from the combustion exhaust gas of the gas burner 25. Since heat is imparted by combustion exhaust gas, the heat exchanger 13 lowers the temperature of the exhaust gas while preheating the city water supplied into the water tube 19.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
