PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve reference condition control method for preventing the dispersion of a valve property adjusting amount between cylinders due to a difference in the coefficient of thermal expansion between a cylinder head and a control shaft of an internal combustion engine, and to provide a variable valve train.;SOLUTION: During controlling the reference condition of a variable valve train, the axial positions of intervening drive mechanisms 120 for the cylinders are adjusted to be in initial conditions corresponding to the initial position of a control shaft 132. By fixing each collar 164 to a rocker shaft 130, the condition of each intervening drive mechanism 120 arranged on the rocker shaft 130 is determined as reference arrangement. A cylinder head (including a cam carrier), when different in the coefficient of thermal expansion from the control shaft 132, therefore gives no influences to the dispersion of a valve lift amount between the cylinders.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
