PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a position controller for a telephotographic zoom lens capable of easily zooming and focusing on an object at a long distance in accordance with a desired enlargement ratio and a distance up to the object, and also, capable of reducing the weight of a lens, a load on lens design and a manufacturing cost, and having an improved light transmissivity, and to obtain a telephotographic camera apparatus equipped with the position controller for the telephotographic zoom lens. PSOLUTION: An optical system is simply constituted of an objective lens 11, a magnifying lens 12 and a CCD image pickup element 13, and also, provided with a zooming stage 15 for sliding the CCD image pickup element 13 with reference to the magnifying lens 12, and a focusing stage 17 for sliding the zooming stage 15 and the magnifying lens 12 arranged on the original position of the stage 15 with reference to the objective lens 11, and the set position of the CCD image pickup element 13 and the set position of the magnifying lens 12 are accurately controlled by using a prescribed operation expression in accordance with the desired enlargement ratio M and the distance S up to the object.
