Use of a compound selected from perfluorohexanoic acid, perfluoropentanoic acid, perfluorobutanoic acid or perfluoropropionic acid, or a salt or an ester of any thereof, or perfluorooctane, in the manufacture of a medicament for treating a patient in need of modulation of one or both of plasma insulin and plasma glucose, or for treating a patient who has diabetes or who is at risk of developing diabetes.
