PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle running information collecting device and the self-diagnostic method of the vehicle running information collecting device capable of preventing any misoperation at the time of executing diagnosis by preventing anything but diagnosis corresponding to each diagnostic site from being executable, and preventing any malfunction at the time of running. SOLUTION: Self-diagnosis is divided into test diagnosis for diagnosing an internal circuit constituting this vehicle running information collecting device to be performed at the time of manufacturing this device, line diagnosis for diagnosing sensor kinds connected to the device to be performed at the time of assembling a vehicle, and user diagnosis for diagnosing peripheral equipment connected to the device to be performed at the time of assembling this device into the vehicle and at the time of constituting this system. In this case, the more significant test diagnosis and line diagnosis can be prevented from being executable unless first and second memory cards in which specific codes are stored are present.
